A Few Fantastic Things to Do Around Tampa and Sarasota
All of us at Cox Chevrolet are delighted to sell some of the finest vehicles on the market, but we also pride ourselves on being able to help our customers make the most of those vehicles. With that in mind, we’re putting together a collection of some of our favorite things to do in the Tampa and Sarasota areas, from roadside attractions, to our favorite places to eat, to other places of interest. We intend to cover all of the bases to help you make the most of the wonderful things that this community has to offer!
Tampa and Sarasota are two of the most beautiful places in Florida, with some of the world’s finest beaches as well as a variety of cultural institutions. You can soak up the sun, watch a variety of professional sports teams (even ice hockey!), and do just about everything else around here — and what better way to get there than in a new vehicle?

TAMPA
Bok Tower Gardens
Originally established back in 1929, Bok Tower Gardens offers a stunning mix of architecture and nature. Highlights include the 205-foot Singing Tower, the Gardens, and a 20-room mansion built in the ‘30s.
Big Cat Rescue
Big Cat Rescue is a non-profit sanctuary for lions, tigers, and other exotic cats. Animals come first at this sanctuary, but they do offer educational tours throughout the week. This is a great opportunity to see beautiful animals in a natural, non-zoo environment.
The Florida Aquarium
This world class aquarium hosts aquatic life and animals from around the world. Besides fascinating exhibits, The Florida Aquarium features a water park, a wetlands trail, a dolphin cruise, and they even let you swim with the fish.
Tampa Electric Manatee Viewing Area
When the Gulf waters get cool, manatees are attracted to the warm saltwater output from the Big Bend Power Station. At the Tampa Electric Manatee View Area, it’s very easy to large numbers of manatees up close many days of the year.
Tampa Theatre
Constructed back in 1926, the Tampa Theatre is a Tampa area cultural landmark. The fully restored theatre still plays new and classic films and hosts events and concerts. They still even play the original Wurlitzer organ before most screenings.
SARASOTA
Circus Arts Conservatory
Circus pioneer John Ringling settled his circus in Florida during the winter months to recoup and train, bestowing Sarasota with a rich circus heritage. The Circus Arts Conservatory has performances throughout the year as well as a circus training school.
Mote Marine Aquarium
Dedicated to research and education, the Mote Marine Aquarium is a great way for people of all ages to get an up close look at the creatures living in the ocean surrounding Florida. Be sure to look out for the 135,000 gallon shark tank!
Sarasota Classic Car Museum
The Sarasota Classic Car Museum is definitely one of our favorite attractions in Sarasota. They’re the second oldest antique car museum in the country. The museum has close to 100 classic cars, including some owned by celebrities like John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
Sarasota Opera
For when you’re feeling cultured, the Sarasota Opera is internationally known for their breathtaking portrayals of classic and neglected operas. Productions are held throughout the year in their beautiful downtown theater that was built in 1926 and recently received a $20 million facelift.
Tatum Ridge Golf Links
Grab your bag and hit the Tatum Ridge Golf Links! This 18-hole, Scottish-style course is open to the public. The course features a large practice facility with an 18-hole putting green, and the Barry Cheesman Golf Academy.
