Big Cat Rescue is a sanctuary for large felines that have been abused, neglected, abandoned, or otherwise mistreated. The cats are nursed back to health by expert veterinarians and then allowed to live out their natural lives in a sprawling natural landscape that closely mirrors the conditions they would seek out in the wild. The mission of the organization is two fold: to provide love and care for animals that can’t live in traditional rescue settings and to provide an unparalleled opportunity for the public to observe these beautiful animals and learn more about them.

What is a Trip to Big Cat Rescue Like?

Big Cat Rescue is a sanctuary, not a zoo. In order to protect the animals, guests are invited to take a tour rather than wander throughout the grounds unaccompanied. The tour visits all of the cat habitats, and is lead by a guide that educates guests about each one of the animals. In addition to the basic tour, there are kid’s tours, feeding tours, keeper tours, and photo tours offered. The trip around the grounds lasts approximately an hour and a half and involves a fair amount of walking, so wear comfortable shoes, and check the weather before you leave the house. If you end up getting rained on, Big Cat Rescue will give you a free pass to return on another day.

When Can I Plan a Visit?

Big Cat Rescue is open every day of the week except for Thursday, and only closes down for Christmas and Thanksgiving. Tours are offered in both the morning and the afternoon, but the specific schedule changes depending on the day.
