Sarasota Circus ArtsDid you know that Sarasota has a resident circus? In operation since 1997, the Circus Arts Conservatory holds performances in a classic big-top tent all year long. If you’re looking for fun things to do in Sarasota, a trip to the circus is always a fun time for kids and adults. If you’re looking to get more involved, the Conservatory also teaches the tricks of the trade.

History of the Circus Arts Conservatory

Sarasota became known as the “Circus Capitol of the World” thanks to Circus legend John Ringling. During the 1920s, Ringling began settling his circus in Sarasota during the winter months. Over the years, having a circus in town became an important part of the community. Since its foundation, the Circus Arts Conservatory has tried to maintain that legacy and preserve the art of circus entertainment. In addition to giving performances, the nonprofit organization offers education, training, and a great deal of community outreach.

Events and Things to Do at the Circus Arts Conservatory

You might be surprised all there is to do at the Circus Arts Conservatory. Take a look at their events calendar to see what’s coming up, but here’s just a little of what they have to offer:

  • Attend a Performance: The Circus Arts Conservatory regularly puts on classic-inspired circus performances using a European-styled big-top tent. Expect to see incredible feats of acrobatic prowess, insane jugglers, and some hysterical clowns.
  • Summer Circus Camp: If your children don’t have any plans lined up for the summer, they offer one- and two-week camps throughout the summer. Your child will learn a bit of everything, from the flying trapeze to how to be a perfect clown.
  • Community Classes: Kids, teens, and adults are welcome to enroll in specific circus-skill classes like juggling and aerial skills.
  • Volunteer: If you have a love for the circus and some spare time, the Circus Arts Conservatory is always looking for volunteers to do everything from making costumes to ushering at events. It’s a nonprofit group dedicated to giving back to the community, and you could be a part of it!
