Z06 for SaleFor more than 50 years, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has lived up to its designation as a “Supercar.” In every era, it has dominated other sport automobiles and delivered levels of performance that pushed the engineering capabilities of the time to the very limit. Essentially, this is a high performance racing automobile that has been made available to the general public. Well, at least the segment of the general public that wants to push the speedometer well past 100, whip around hairpin turns, and feel in command of a topflight automobile. A completely redesigned 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 will be available at the beginning of 2015, and we wanted to mark the occasion by looking  at the past and future of this iconic automobile.

The Z06 of the Past

The Z06 first raced onto the scene in 1963. The vehicle was actually designed to be a racing automobile, but with a twist. A ban had recently been placed on manufacturer-sponsored racing by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Chevrolet, however, knew  people would continue to race their Corvette model whether there was a ban or not. They decided to give the people what they wanted, and built a Corvette with racing in mind. This early model was a thrill, but it was short lived.

The Corvette Z06 was revived in 2001 and has been in near consistent production since. Over the last decade, the Z06 has put out astounding performance numbers while committing itself to bold and stylish designs. The model was redesigned in 2006, and every successive year has featured minor tweaks and upgrades. But that is all about the change. An all-new Corvette Z06 hits the streets at the beginning of 2015.

The Z06 of the Future

For the debut of this new vehicle, Chevrolet has redesigned everything from outside to inside, back to front. The supercharged 6.2L V8 engine is expected to put out at least 625 hp and achieve 635 lb-ft of torque. Other technologically enhanced engine components have been integrated in to provide peak levels of performance. The vehicle also features a stunning look, a premium interior, and lots of available upgrades and options. It is easy to see why they call this a supercar.
