The Chevy Camaro Z/28 is Back for 2014

We’re pleased to say that the legendary Camaro Z/28 is making a return for the 2014 model year. Chevy redesigned how the iconic Camaro looked, mixing the spirit of the nameplate with a modern flair, as well as adding significant drivetrain improvements. Maybe it’s feeding off of the energy of the new Corvette, or simply creating its own, but the new 2014 Camaro Z/28 brings something wonderful and different that we haven’t seen on the nameplate in years.

Vehicle History

The Z/28 was originally introduced back in 1967, envisioned as a ride destined for the race track. Its lightweight body and nimble handling made it a favorite choice for performance drivers. The unique looking fifth generation Camaro Z/28 would make an appearance as the vintage beater disguise of the Autobot Bumblebee in the 2007 film Transformers. Chevy used this cameo as a clever chance to unveil modified fifth-generation Camaro.

New Styling is Refined and Aggressive

While many sports car fans complain about the bulkiness of American-made roadsters (we’re looking across the pond at you, Britain), the new styling of the 2014 Camaro changes that. While still retaining the aggressive look and energy of an American vehicle, the new curves and contours cut into the Camaro, especially the hood, add just the perfect amount of the subtle refinement needed to pass as a classy.

Z/28 Performance

As far as performance goes, the entire Z/28 is designed to impress. The bold grille and the hood scoop are more than just good looking, they’re functional, too. Wind moves through the grille, out the vents, and over the body create a strong down force to keep the Z/28 glued to the road and the driver in control. A functional diffuser also helps to increase downforce and reduce drag.

Chevy also trimmed 100 pounds off of the Z/28 for the sake of performance. Despite this, there was also no problem accommodating the V8 engine from the Corvette, or a set of high performance brakes. The engine is tied to a six-speed TREMEC TR6060 manual transmission with close gear ratios. The drivetrain also fears a rear limited-slip differential. This gives drivers more control when it comes to distributing torque, allowing you to take corners without an issue.
