Switch Out Those Bald Tires Today

With winter fast approaching, many drivers think that now is a good time to switch out their old, aging tires. While this certainly is true, the fact is that whenever you have balding tires, you’ll want to switch them out as soon as possible.

I know, getting new tires can get expensive, but the amount of damage that can be done to your vehicle from non-ideal tires can be far worse. Not only will you obviously have trouble with traction the balder your tires get, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

It’s something like a game of Russian roulette, driving on balding tires. For all you know the next pot hole or a stray tack could pop your tire and ruin your day. If this happens in town, it’s probably going to be just a minor inconvenience, but imagine what it would be like to get a blowout going 70 mph down the highway!

Most importantly, it is not a matter of “if your tire will blow out,” but simply a matter of “when”.

In addition to having a weak, vulnerable tire, balding tires also were not something that your automaker took into account when designing aspects of your car like the alignment, hence the necessity of tire rotations and alignment checks.

Chances are, if you’ve got balding tires, they probably aren’t wearing evenly, which is a slow but sure way of scooting your alignment off center, until one day you need to be holding your wheel to the side to keep going straight.

Keeping a set of winter tires that can give you extra traction in the event of ice or freezing rain can help two-fold. First, it gives you improved tires in the winter, and second, it spreads the wear over two sets of tires, ensuring that your tires will all last longer!

I don’t know what it is about neglecting maintenance on wheels and tires; despite their essential role in the automobile, many drivers – myself included – seem to make a habit of brushing aside any concern for their performance until it’s too late.
