Famous Chevy Cars in Movies and TV

Cars from movies and TV usually fuel the fire for young car lovers long before they are old enough to get a driver’s license. A lot of the staff here at Cox Chevy, your Bradenton, FL Chevy dealer, became interested in cars through the big screen as well. We award actors with Oscars and Golden Globes, so why not recognize the famous vehicles that spark so many car enthusiasts’ dreams? Several of the most recognizable TV and movie cars were born in the Chevy name. We have compiled a list of some of the most talented Chevrolets so we can give them the acknowledgement they deserve!

Classic Chevy “Actors”

• The 1990 Chevy Lumina in Days of Thunder — This movie sparked Nascar’s most successful decade-long run. Cole Trickle (played by Tom Cruise) drives the Lumina, dubbed Mello Yello, in this movie.
• The 1965 Chevy Corvette in Stingray — This show on NBC in the late 80’s promoted the admiration many already had of the classic Corvette Stingray. Ray’s (Nick Mancuso) black 1965 Corvette Coupe came to the rescue for a lot of people in those days!
• The 1958 Chevy Impala in American Graffiti — This car is still kept in great condition by owners in Washington state. It was Steve Bolander’s car in this popular movie.
• The 1955 Chevy 210 in American Graffiti — This car was originally built for Two-Lane Blacktop and was then used in American Graffiti. Its motor’s sounds were also used in Smokey and the Bandit. That is one hard-working vehicle!
• The 1976 Camaro in Transformers — This car, named “Bumblebee,” was a ’76 Camaro in the original movie. In the 2007 version of the movie, Bumblebee was updated to a 2010 Camaro.
• The 1957 Chevrolet in Hollywood Knights — The 1980 film features this yellow ‘57, which was driven by Tony Danza. GM Performance recently rebuilt this vehicle.
• The 1961 Chevy Corvette in Route 66 — This road adventure series featured Martin Milner and George Maharis driving new Corvettes every year from 1960 to 1964. The 1961 proved to be the most popular.
• The 1973 Corvette in Corvette Summer — This vehicle was restyled with lots of fiberglass and was converted to right-hand drive for this 1978 movie. Mark Hamil spends most of his time in the movie trying to get the stolen car back.
