Cox Chevrolet Customers Respond to “Do You Change Your Oil Regularly?”

October 25th, 2012 by

Have your oil changed at Cox Mazda.

There’s no arguing that changing your oil on a regular basis is a vital part of your vehicle’s well being. While some drivers do this on their own, others trust Cox Chevrolet with changing their oil, as well as their other maintenance needs. Our fast and reliable service has made us one of the most trusted names in the area. Winter is coming, and having fresher oil will be key to helping your engine stay healthy when the roads are full of grime and debris.

What Our Customers Had to Say

We asked the fans on our Facebook page to be honest about how often they change their oil. Some we’re adamant about keeping up to date with their oil changes, while some admitted that they need to a better job at it. One customer shared “My grandfather was a mechanic all his life and actually owned a Chevy dealership for 25 yrs… He always said ‘keep good oil, to keep a good engine,’” while another customer said, “I need to do a better job at changing my oil! Thanks for the reminder!”

To know how often you should change your oil, check your vehicle’s manual. Many drivers change their oil every 3,000 miles or so, which has really become an outdated standard. Save money and time by following your manufacturer’s recommendation. Most vehicles require changes around 5,000 to 7,000, or even up to 10,000 miles.

Getting Set for Winter

Having a different grade of oil in your engine during the winter can help to increase its overall protection. Check to see if your engine needs an oil with a lower viscosity in the winter. As the temperature drops, the viscosity of oil typically thickens, meaning it doesn’t circulate as well when the engine first starts up. A thinner oil will move better when colder, keeping your engine healthier.

The best way to determine whether you need a lower viscosity oil or not is to check your owner’s manual. You should be able to find it near the note about scheduled oil changes. If you’re still unsure, ask a team member at Cox Mazda what they would recommend. We’d be happy to help!
