Could a New Silverado Be Coming?

Have you ever dreamed of dropping the engine of a Corvette Stingray under the hood of a pickup? Imagined what you could do with all of that power and torque on the job site – or just off road? Well, that could be coming soon to Silverado drivers.

There is talk that Chevrolet will be taking a cue from Ford’s litany of options on their F-Series pickup line, offering drivers even more to choose from as soon as the 2014 Silverado.

The Start of Co-Branding

“Ford does a lot with co-branding” was all Chris Hilts, manager for creative design for General Motors, had to say about the possibility of a new Silverado. Well, he also said that they were very aware of the co-branding going on at Ford in the form of the Harley-Davidson Pickup and the Raptor.

That said, Chevrolet has already unveiled the 2014 Silverado 1500 – it should be arriving in showrooms pretty quickly – so, it might be too much to speculate that we’ll see a Silverado Stingray coming soon.

Then again, that may not be too far out of line either; there’s nothing that says that Chevrolet can’t release some nice, performance-tuned special edition pickups a few months down the road.

Until then, there’s still much to love about the standard Silverado, sporting a 4.3L V6 engine with 285 hp as standard, with the option to upgrade to a 5.3L 355 hp V8, and an as-of-yet unrated 6.2L V8. These EcoTec engines are optimized for both efficiency and performance, offering better fuel economy than many competing V6 options.

Beyond performance, these pickups are built for comfort as well, with a reduced road noise, spacious cab, and the option to upgrade to the Crew Cab design. Of course, drivers will also have the option for a bare bones work truck, as GM knows that not everyone wants something beyond the basics.
