For decades, the Chevy Corvette has been a legacy in the world of performance cars. By offering exceptional power at a reasonable price, the Corvette has been making supercar performance available to the average consumer for years. I’m really excited about the new 2013 Corvette because it features some amazing engine choices that make more power than any Corvettes before it. Let’s take a closer look at what’s going on underneath the hood of the 2013 Corvette lineup.

Impressive V8 Performance

Anyone that’s familiar with Corvettes knows to expect a strong V8 under the hood, but the 2013 release pushes those expectations a little further. That’s because the base level engine is a huge 6.2L V8 that comes standard with a six-speed manual and launch control. This hefty V8 churns out a smooth 430 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque which is enough to hit 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.

While the base engine offers ample output for the casual driver, a performance enthusiast might be looking for a little more power. This is where the high-performance Corvette lines come in; namely the Z06 and the 427. Both of these models are equipped with a brawny 7.0L V8 that cranks out an intimidating 505 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. The Z06 can go from 0-60 mph in a scant 3.9 seconds.

While the previous two engines make enough power to make most other cars on the road look like toys, their performance pales in comparison to the mighty Corvette ZR1. This king-of-kings trim model gets the most powerful engine available in any Corvette, a supercharged version of the 6.2L V8 good for an astonishing 638 hp and 604 lb-ft of torque. This kind of power makes city driving drastically impractical but makes afternoons at the track an unparalleled joy. Capable of 0-60 mph times in the 3.8 second range, the 2013 ZR1 is the fastest Corvette produced to date and has the potential to handily outperform most so-called supercars on the road.
