Chevy’s MyLink Makes Playing Your Music Easy

When I got my iPod, I felt like I had the power of the universe resting in my palm. Despite having the screen resolution of an original Game Boy (it was the first iPad Mini), I felt like it was the most technologically-advanced piece of machinery that I had ever owned. The first thing I did was to transfer my entire collection of Queen CDs to its hard drive, followed by Led Zeppelin, and then Bob Marley.

Once I got a car, the next obvious step was to find a way to play it through my sound system. There were a variety of different solutions available. For the car that had a tape deck (not uncommon then), there was a special tape adapter with an auxiliary cable running out of it. Though it worked, the sound quality was subpar and there was always the small whirl of the deck churning in the background.

The other solution was a small box that would plug directly into the iPod’s audio jack that would transmit either an AM or an FM signal, requiring you to choose a frequency that wasn’t being used by a radio station. This also worked sufficiently, enough; well, until you drove within range of a radio station that was using the frequency you had chosen, forcing you to search furiously for a new one.

Eventually, manufacturers wired USB and auxiliary cables directly into audio systems, allowing you to seamlessly connect your device with great audio clarity. There was still the problem, though, of taking your eyes off of the road to search for your next album or song. Chevy has helped to solve that problem with the MyLink system.
