Chevy Volt Hybrid Drivers Are Getting Even Better Mileage Than Expected
The Chevrolet Volt hybrid is surprising drivers in a very pleasant way. While the EPA estimates that most drivers will go 900 miles between fuel fill ups, many are going much longer. This means they’re also saving much more than the estimated $1,300 a year on fuel costs.
A Unique Type of Hybrid Car
For drivers who don’t know, the Chevy Volt is one of the most unique Hybrid vehicles available on the market today. A combination plug-in and gasoline powered vehicle, the Chevy Volt is saving drivers a lot of money on their annual fuel bills.
Here’s how it works. The Volt has an onboard battery that can be charged in as little as three hours, right from your garage. On the battery alone, the Volt can typically carry drivers about 40 miles, depending on their driving style. Obviously from this blog post though, many drivers are getting a lot more out of their Volt than that.
When the battery is drained, the gasoline engine seamlessly starts up, carrying you for the rest of the journey. Since it’s cheaper to go one mile on electricity than on gasoline, the Volt can save many drivers dramatically on their daily fuel expenditure.
Drivers Are Very Happy With Their Volts
Here’s what one driver, Brian Walderp of Auburn Hills, Michigan, had to say about his Volt: “I have driven more than 23,500 miles in my Volt in 21 months, and have been to a gas station twice. The last time, was in August (2012), and I still have about 65 percent of that tank left. I go about 9,000-10,000 miles between fill ups.”
Larry Read of Canyon Lake, Texas, shared similar sentiments. “It’s been more than 5,000 miles and I’ve only filled up once not including the dealer fill,” he said. Being free of the pump is an idea that many drivers dream of. Not having to visit the gas station as often is not only money saved but is also less wasted time. Most drivers simply plug in their car when they get home and let it charge while they sleep.
