Chevy Teams With Dreamworks Animation to Promote Turbo
A racing movie never fails to get me excited. I was eager for months to see the eye-popping, candy-colored Speed Racer remake. I was not disappointed. Even the Fast and Furious series never fails to keep me engaged.
A Racing-Obsessed Snail
Now it’s Dreamworks Animation’s turn to hit the track. Their latest feature, Turbo, tells the story of a snail of the same name who is obsessed with Indy racing and who dreams of someday moving faster than, well, a snail’s pace. After a chance encounter with drag-racing Chevy Camaro and being sucked into a canister of nitrous oxide (à la Peter Parker’s radioactive spider bite), Turbo gains super powers that give him the speed and performance to compete in the Indy 500.
Chevy Recreated the Magical Camaro
Chevy joined the promotional campaign for Turbo, which debuts July 17th, by recreating the Chevy Camaro that grants Turbo the snail his mystical racing abilities. The campaign also features television, print, online adverts, and a strong social media push.
During the film’s production, Dreamworks animators consulted Chevy while they recreated the Camaro for the film, as well as the numerous Chevy racers at the Indy 500. There are also numerous appearances of the Chevy bow-tie at the race, as there would be in real life. This is what, Dreamworks believes, brings a strong authenticity to the film.
“Turbo is one of the most anticipated films of the summer, and we couldn’t be more excited about this collaboration, which aligns perfectly with Chevrolet’s renewed presence in INDYCAR,” said Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer, Chevrolet. “Millions of future drivers will be inspired by Turbo to realize their dreams both big and small.”
Test Drive a Chevy Camaro at Cox Chevy
Despite its younger target audience, Turbo has pulled me in. And even if I find that I can’t engage with a snail emotionally, I’ll definitely be going for the Camaro. If you or your children would like to look at a real Chevy Camaro, come to Cox Chevy. We’ll even let you take a new model out for a test drive.
