Chevy Set to Unveil 2014 Cruze Diesel Edition

Times are changing quickly, and the auto industry is working overtime to try and keep with the current and developing demands of the American auto consumer. For years the United States was famous around the world for its disregard of fuel economy standards, but concerns over the impact of carbon dioxide emissions and rapidly increasing fuel prices have made the American car buyer reconsider their options when considering a new car. The auto industry has responded with a quickly growing market of hybrid and electric models. Some people aren’t ready to make the jump to the hybrid and electric market though, and that’s where the 2014 Chevy Cruze Diesel comes in.

Set to offer drivers in the United States the fuel efficiency they’re looking for while still packing the punch under the hood that many American still demand in an automobile, the upcoming 2014 Cruze Diesel is set to be unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show on February 7. While we haven’t seen what this Cruze Diesel will look like yet, it’s fair to speculate that this version of the model will in many ways resemble the European Cruze Diesel, already available across the pond. Regardless, here’s what we know so far.

This highly anticipated new model will be equipped with a 2.0-liter direct-injected turbocharged diesel engine. AdBlue urea injection will convert nitrous oxides into nitrogen and water to help the new diesel model pass through vehicle inspections.

While we don’t have concrete spec on what to expect from the powertrain, the European model pumps out a capable 161 hp and an impressive 266 lb-ft of torque. That should be enough to keep the power hungry gear heads happy while also producing at a higher fuel efficiency than the current Cruze Eco model. We may expect upwards of 40 mpg highway for this smartly built vehicle.

Production of the 2014 Cruze Diesel is expected to begin around March of this year, with a sales date to land sometime in April or May.
