The Chevy RemoteLink App Gives Drivers Smartphone Control Over Their Cars

February 6th, 2014 by

Chevrolet OnStar ConnectivityFor too long automobiles have relied entirely on tiny metal keys to provide entry and access. This was useful in its time, but this is the 21st century, and there has to be a better way. If you have ever locked your keys in your car, left them in the office when you ran out to the parking lot, or struggled to find them in a stuffed handbag, you know how frustrating it can be to rely on that one little object to let you use your car. As part of their commitment to serve the real needs of today’s drivers, Chevrolet has pioneered a technology that eliminates the hassles of using a traditional key. That technology is called RemoteLink, and it is available now for your smartphone. Here’s how it works.

Smartphone Access to Your Vehicle

In order to use the Chevy RemoteLink app, you only need to have a smartphone and a Chevy vehicle equipped with OnStar technology, which is all new cars like the 2014 Chevy Camaro. You first have to download a free app to your smartphone which interfaces with your vehicle’s OnStar system to act as a key. When you open the app, you enter a password of your choosing to prove to the system that you are the owner of the vehicle, or someone authorized to use it. Once you have access, you can lock or unlock your doors, start or stop the engine, and even honk the horn, all from your smartphone without needing a subscription to OnStar. If you do have OnStar, you receive further features like the ability to check your gas, oil level, and send directions to your car.

Enhanced Convenience, Comfort, and Security

Imagine how easy life would be if you could access your vehicle from anywhere, at anytime. When you go to the mall and realize you’ve left your doors unlocked, you can lock them without interrupting your shopping. When you can’t find your keys but need to get something out of your car, you simply need to tap a few buttons on your smartphone. When you wake up to bitterly cold weather, you can start your car and heat it up before you ever leave the house. This technology goes everywhere, works in any condition, is totally safe, and is very difficult to lose.
