Chevy is Already Thinking About the 2014 Academy Awards
Okay, so maybe better things than Seth McFarlane hosting and making bad jokes could have happened to this year’s Oscars. If anything, it got people excited for the possibilities for next year’s show. Chevy is tapping into that potential by committing to be a part of the event’s advertising portion for the next five years, including one very interesting campaign.
Lights, Camera, Drive
With tens of millions of people tuning into the Oscars every February, commercial airtime is about as sacred as that of the Super Bowl. To make their own airtime truly worthwhile, Chevy is teaming up with independent film makers to create stories that explore those simple moments in life that have a big meaning. And while the big moments such as graduation and marriage warranty big screen stories, Chevy is interested in exploring all the wonderful things that happen in between.
The campaign is not only a good way to get Chevy’s image out there, but it also helps less known directors and filmmakers to get recognized on a night that is devoted to the wonder of storytelling. The theme of the project ties directly into Chevy’s new “Find New Roads” advertising campaign, whose memorable first TV spot appeared during last year’s Grammy Awards.
“As new roads in daily life are found and explored, Chevrolet vehicles naturally become a part of significant moments and memories,” said Tim Mahoney, Global Chevrolet chief marketing officer. “We hope the ingenuity of this program will allow filmmakers to capture the essence of what owning a Chevrolet means to people around the world.”
To select its filmmakers for the project, Chevy will work with MOFILM, a global creative collective. Scripts and ideas by interested film makers will be reviewed by a panel that includes “Titanic” and “Avatar” producer Jon Landau, and director Spike Lee. More can be found out about entering the Chevrolet Oscars Program by visiting MOFILM’s website.
Submitting to Chevy
Interested filmmakers should submit their scripts before August 16th. The films will be shown with the Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2nd, 2014. This could be a big moment for the director waiting to be discovered! Our Chevy dealership is certainly looking forward to the results.
