The Chevy Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel Has Better Fuel Economy Than Any Other Non-hybrid Vehicle

Last month, we broke the news about Chevy’s upcoming 2014 Cruze Diesel model with high expectations for strong fuel savings. Chevrolet has finally released the official numbers for the Cruze, which is due this fall. Its amazing EPA estimated 46 mpg highway fuel efficiency puts it ahead of any other non-hybrid vehicle available today.

700 Miles on One Tank

Whether you just use it to get to the office or are regularly making cross-country trips, the new Cruze means less time at the pump and more money in your wallet. For those of you that do find yourself on regular road-trips, the Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel gets an estimated 700 miles to the tank. That’s enough gas to get you to Charlotte or New Orleans. Two tanks will easily get you to either Chicago or New York City with plenty of gas to spare.

A New, Cleaner Diesel Engine

Diesel has always been associated with strength. You’ve probably heard more than one pleased coach tell the team “now you’re running on diesel power.” That’s why it’s the preferred fuel of many big machines. Let’s revisit that revered idea of “tough diesel power.” Not only does the Cruze Diesel come with a strong fuel economy, but it also packs a powerful punch. 148 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque means that it is leading the class in power. An over-boost feature kicks the power up to 280 lb-ft of torque, increasing acceleration when needed.
