Holy LEGOs, Batman! Chevrolet and ‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ Team Up in Supersized Partnership

Chevrolet Batman promotion

Designers at Chevrolet have really strapped on their utility belts for a partnership with Warner Bros.’ “The LEGO Batman Movie”, creating promotional materials of superhero proportions that have the DC Universe buzzing. In celebration of the film, which hit theaters in early February, Chevrolet has commissioned a life-size LEGO Batmobile, built using over 300,000 LEGO bricks. The Chevy/Warner Bros. partnership has also given Chevrolet a super-fun outlet to get creative with advertising.*

Super Wheels for a Superhero

LEGO Batman would indeed be proud of Chevrolet’s giant LEGO Batmobile, which was crafted using a staggering 344,187 LEGO bricks over 1,833 hours of work. The life-size Batmobile is the result of a collaboration between Chevy and students from the Cody Rouge community of Detroit, A World in Motion, and First LEGO League. This impressive LEGO vehicle, measuring 17 feet long, 9.25 feet wide, and just under 6.92 feet in height, made its debut at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Chevrolet has also built a webpage for the LEGO Batmobile just as it would for any new vehicle—complete with a jaw-dropping list of specs boasting that the LEGO Batmobile retails starting at $48 million MSRP, has a 120,000-pound maximum towing capacity, and is powered by a 60.2L V100 engine that produces a whopping 20,000 hp.

Fantastic Features

The LEGO Batmobile is also equipped with Chevrolet’s Teen Driver Technology, according to the website, so Batman can keep tabs on Robin’s performance behind the wheel. Other exciting features include:

  • Scarecrow Gas Detector

  • Flaming rocket booster

  • Side Batwing Conversion

  • Monster Truck Mode

  • X-ray vision camera

  • Stud shooters

  • Driver-centric bulletproof glass

  • Automatic Nerd Alert

  • Battle hardened body panels

  • Sextuple exhaust

The website also has a comparison graph showing how the LEGO Batmobile stacks up (no pun intended) against LEGO Joker’s Notorious Lowrider and LEGO Riddler’s The Riddler Racer. Chevy’s site even allows shoppers to build their own version of the LEGO Batmobile online.

Ad-Ventures

The fun continues with advertising created by the Chevrolet and Warner Bros. team. In a spoof on Chevy’s own “Real People, Not Actors” commercial ad campaign, a focus group composed of LEGO Minifigures are questioned about what kind of person they think would drive the new LEGO Batmobile. LEGO Batman, who is lurking at the back of the focus group, is less than pleased by the responses generated from the question, such as:

  • “Well, it’s all black. Probably someone with self-esteem issues.”

  • “Judging by these rocket launchers, this person’s kind of defensive.”

  • “And look, there’s no back seat. Probably not many friends.”
