The Chevrolet C7 Corvette Is Coming for 2014!

Chevrolet’s most iconic model has been on the verge of entering its next generation for a while now, and from what we can gather from the current buzz in the automotive world, it might just be coming sooner than expected. The all-new Corvette C7 prototype was recently spotted testing in Canada and from what we’ve read, it may start arriving in dealerships late this year! A New Look

While the C7 is the beginning of a new generation for the Corvette, recent spy shots reveal that the C7 is still very much recognizable as a Corvette. However, photos of the new car reveal that instead of the split rear design many expected to see, it features a solid rear window with a sharp slope into the vehicle’s deck lid. It also sports a front engine design with a long, low hood and a wide, rectangle shaped grille.

Also, while we can’t be sure because of the heavy disguise, the C7 does appear to feature a longer wheelbase. The new wheelbase makes perfect sense for the next generation due to the fact that a longer base will help to improve handling and stability at higher speeds. It’s also possible that the increased wheelbase will be used to expand passenger and cargo space.

Vehicle manufacturers have been under enormous pressure lately to improve the fuel economy of their models, and Chevy’s classic muscle car is no exception. Many are speculating that the new C7 may be built with an aluminum space frame and feature a body composed of carbon fiber and fiberglass, which will cut the Corvettes weight by thousands of pounds. The lighter weight would help to improve fuel efficiency without forcing Chevrolet to sacrifice performance.

Powertrain

Chevy has been quiet about many details regarding the new C7, but we can be almost certain that the fifth generation V8 engine will continue on into 2014, although it may decrease from a 6.2L engine to a 5.5L version. The V8 uses direct injection for maximum power, torque, and fuel efficiency. Hard performance numbers are not available at this time, but we can guarantee that when they are, they’ll blow your hair back.
