Changing your vehicle’s air filter is one of the simplest pieces of auto maintenance that you can do all by yourself. The first thing you’ll need to do is make sure you’ve got the right filter; for your convenience, we’ve got a parts department on site that will be happy to help with that. We recommend changing your air filter every 12-15 months or roughly every 10,000 miles, although it certainly won’t hurt to change it more frequently either. To make it easier to remember, you should pick a nice round mile marker, like 50,000 or so, and then know to change it every 10,000 miles afterward.

Once you have determined that you need a new air filter, you’ll need to pop the hood and figure out where your current one is situated. Usually the filter is in a black plastic casing, but always noted in your manual. You’ll need to take the cover off, prying off clips with your regular screwdriver, and unscrew any necessary screws. After you’ve removed the cover, pull out the old filter, clean the housing with a vacuum, and replace it with the new one.
