The 2014 Corvette Stingray Fuel Economy Numbers are Up

No body builder is going to win points with the crowd when he says he rather forego the steak dinner and go with a soy-based shake. In the muscle car world, though, a market built that’s built on gas guzzling machines, the leaner eaters are becoming the most attractive of the bunch.

Chevy has proven, too, that fuel efficiency doesn’t exactly equate with a lack of power either. For example, the new redesigned 2014 Silverado 1500 comes equipped with an all-new 285 hp 4.3L EcoTec3, compared with last year’s 195 hp model. This was achieved while increasing fuel efficiency from 20 mpg on the highway to 24. Chevy put the design team for the new 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray up to the same challenge, and they were able to return higher performance and increased fuel economy

More Power, Less Money at the Pump

So what exactly will the 2014 Corvette Stingray fuel economy be? When equipped with the all-new, seven-speed manual transmission, Chevy estimates that drivers will get around 29 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg in the city. More specifically, in “Tour” mode, highway economy is expected to be 28 mpg. While in “Eco” mode, drivers can get upwards of 30 mpg. This marks an 11% increase in fuel economy over the previous Corvette.

These numbers reflect the manual transmission equipped 6.2L 455 hp V8 on LT1 models, making for a 6% power increase over previous Corvette models. The LT1 also has an available dual-exhaust option, increasing power to 460 hp.

An Anomaly in the Market

The Corvette Stingray is a rare breed. Most sportsers with its power output typically see a large dip in fuel economy. In comparison, the Porsche 911 S is rated at 400 hp with a highway fuel economy of 27 mpg, while the Jaguar F-Type S has 495 hp and 23 mpg.
