Safest Small CarsSubcompact cars get a lot of praise for being fuel efficient, but they also have to put up with the misconception that they are unsafe. Because they are smaller, drivers assume these cars are less equipped to protect them in the event of a collision. While that may be true from some smaller cars, it is not the case when you look at the 2014 Chevy Spark. In fact, when you dive into the numbers and Chevy Spark safety ratings, this year’s Spark is one of the safest small vehicles on the road right now.

Exceptional Safety Ratings

The 2014 Chevy Spark received four out of a possible five total stars in government crash test ratings. It earned four stars for total frontal impact protection and five stars for total side crash protection. In the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) ratings, the Spark stood out even further, earning the highest possible rating of “Good” in the moderate-overlap frontal offset, side impact and roof strength tests. In the small-overlap frontal offset test, the Spark earned a rating of “Acceptable”, the second highest possible rating. This is significant because the Spark is the first subcompact car to be tested that has earned a rating above “Poor.”

Safety Features

It is not a fluke the 2014 Chevy Spark earned such impressive ratings from both of the major testing bodies. The 2014 Chevy Spark features a blend of smart engineering and high-tech safety features that do more to protect drivers and passengers alike. Standard safety features include four-wheel antilock brakes, hill-hold assist, stability and traction control, front and rear side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, and front-seat knee airbags. In total, the 2014 Chevy Spark features 10 separate airbags, effectively insulating the entire cabin from the effects of a collision.
