2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 Horsepower by Engine

The Chevy Silverado has always been known first and foremost as a truck made for work. Its powerful engine and rugged build are designed to handle loads of gravel, massive trailers, and enough gear to tackle any job. With that same spirit in mind, Chevy engineers built this year’s 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 to handle more and go farther than ever before. When you dive into the numbers for the Chevy Silverado horsepower, torque, and towing capacity, it is clear this is a truck designed to get things done. There are multiple different trim levels available, but three main engines.

4.3L EcoTec3 V6

This baseline engine puts out 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. It runs on gas or E85 fuel and gets an EPA estimated 24 mpg on the highway. The max payload in this Silverado is 1933 pounds, and it has a max conventional trailering of 5900 pounds in a 3.23 rear axel configuration. Despite being the introductory build, this is clearly a truck that can handle whatever the job site demands.

5.3L EcoTec3 V8

The next level up for the Silverado get 355 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque. The 5.3L V8 features direct fuel injection which helps it to achieve 23 mpg on the highway. It is also aided by a traction and stability control system. That level of reliability helps when this Silverado is loaded down with its max payload of 2007 pounds. Depending on the towing setup, it can pull between 9800  and 11,400 pounds behind it.

6.2L EcoTec3 V8

The engine in this build of the 2014 Silverado is a true beast. It gets 420 hp and 460 lb-ft, plenty to handle big loads, steep grades, and rough terrain. It gets an estimated 21 mpg, less than the other builds, but still quite impressive when you consider how much more power this Silverado has. It has a max payload of 1866 pounds  and can tow up to 12,000 lbs with the right setup. If you want a truck that can do it all, this one rises to the challenge.
