The entire 2016 Chevrolet Sonic lineup comes generously equipped, whether you’re buying on a tight budget or going all out.

  • LS: Go with the base trim, and you’ll see your Sonic fitted with high-end features like keyless entry, OnStar telematics with emergency crash notification and 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth® connectivity, and power locks.
  • LT: For the first time, the LT trim comes standard with the Chevrolet MyLInk infotainment system with a mounted touchscreen that gives you easy access to navigation, satellite radio, smartphone apps, and more. You’ll also get cruise control, power windows, and a remote ignition for models equipped with the automatic transmission.
  • LTZ: In addition to fitting your model with a more powerful and fuel-efficient turbocharged engine, the LTZ trim also gets you heated front seats, leatherette upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a rearview camera to aid you when backing up. This model also rides on larger 17-inch wheels.
  • RS: The RS trim focuses on performance with four-wheel disc brakes and a sport-tuned suspension. This is reflected on the design as well, with a rear spoiler and sporty exterior lines. Inside, the RS comes with seats fitted with leather and simulated suede.

Performance and Fuel Economy

performanceEnjoy a surprising degree of grace, composure, and pep behind the wheel while taking advantage of the 2016 Chevrolet Sonic’s great fuel economy. The standard powertrain on LS and LT trims is a 1.8L inline-four that’s paired to a six-speed automatic or manual transmission and puts out a confident 138 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy comes in at an EPA-estimated 35 mpg highway and 26 mpg city with the manual transmission.

Buyers looking to get more power and better fuel economy will find it in the LTZ and RS trims, both of which get the 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Paired with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, the turbocharged powertrain produces 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is impressive as well, with up to an EPA-estimated 40 mpg highway and 29 mpg city.

2016 Cheverolet Sonic While there’s not yet a long list of major auto reviews on the 2016 Chevrolet Sonic, early buzz is positive.

  • The Car Connection:The 2016 Sonic…[is] a very usable small car with more interior space than many competitors, and it’s a pleasant place to spend time. For 2016, the sole updates are three new colors and a couple of equipment changes: the top LTZ trim level now comes with automatic transmission as standard, and mid-level LT models now include the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment interface.”

safetyThe 2016 Chevrolet Sonic has earned a five-star overall safety rating in government crash tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. All versions of the Sonic come with ten airbags, antilock brakes, and electronic stability control. From the LT trim up, the Sonic also gets a standard rearview camera, while available driver assist technologies include forward-collision and lane-departure warning systems. The 2016 Chevrolet Sonic has not yet received its ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but the 2015 version was named a 2015 Top Safety Pick.
