Performance

The standard engine on the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu is a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that gets 196 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque with a direct injection system. The base engine for the 2015 Nissan Altima is a 2.5L engine as well, getting only 182 hp with 180 lb-ft of torque via a sequential multi-point fuel injection system. The Malibu and Altima do both have similar fuel capacities, but the Malibu has a significant power edge over the Altima.

Safety

The 2015 Chevrolet Malibu offers an OnStar Telematics system with automatic crash notification, which the 2015 Nissan Altima lacks – this is because the Altima is not a GM vehicle, and the OnStar aftermarket attachment doesn’t have automatic crash protection capability. The Altima also lacks the forward warning system, which is a crucial safety feature in the Malibu. The Malibu also earned a perfect score from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, including a score of “Good” in the small-overlap frontal impact test, where the Altima only earned a second-best rating of “Acceptable” on the small-overlap frontal impact test.

Interior Space

The 2015 Chevrolet Malibu has supportive seating, with plenty of room in the front seat. The trunk space offers 16.3 cubic feet, perfect for a short vacation or a large grocery trip; it’s actually larger than average for a sedan in the midsize range.

While the 2015 Nissan Altima has a comfortable cabin, the headroom in the backseat is limited. In addition, the trunk space is 15.4 cubic feet, which is just standard for a vehicle in this size range and market. The extra space that you’ll find in the Chevy Malibu can really make all the difference when trying to pack your trunk full of important gear.

Features

The 2015 Chevrolet Malibu includes various features, with safety additions such as daytime running lamps that increase the visibility of the vehicle during low-light or cloudy daytime conditions. It also comes with the OnStar Telematics system, which now includes features such as navigation and oil level monitoring. You’ll also get features like:

  • Alloy wheels
  • Automatic headlights
  • Keyless entry
  • A 60/40 split-folding rear seat
  • A six-speaker sound system

The 2015 Nissan Altima does not include these features and comes with only a four-speaker sound system. While it does offer a 4.3 LCD information display that sits in the gauge cluster, the 1LZ trim level of the Chevy Malibu comes with a 7-inch touchscreen display.
