The 2014 Chevy Camaro vs. the 2014 Dodge Challenger
The Camaro has become a name that is synonymous with tough, raw power and high-end performance, making it a favorite among car fans around Bradenton and Sarasota. It’s this performance that has helped to push the 2014 Chevy Camaro to the head of its class, and by many drivers’ opinion, ahead of the 2014 Dodge Challenger.
So how do the Camaro and the Challenger match up exactly? Here we take a look at which is the better sports car.
Starting Performance and Price
With its renowned 323 hp V6 and a starting MSRP of $23,555, the Camaro on its own is an attractive pick. Then compare it with the Challenger SXT. The Challenger has a higher MSRP of $26,295 and gets less power at 305 hp.
The Camaro bumps up to a V8 sized engine on the SS trim, offering up 426 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. And at $33,055, it’s not a bad bargain either. If you opt for the Challenger R/T, you’ll also get more. It has a V8 that falls short of the Camaro with only 375 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. And despite this power difference, the Camaro still inches past the Challenger in fuel economy, an estimated 24 mpg on the highway versus 23 mpg.
To beat the power that the Camaro brings to the table, Challenger drivers need to trade up to the 470 hp SRT8. Then again, the Camaro’s 6.2L V8 on the Camaro ZL1 gets 580 hp and 556 lb-ft of torque.
